About Nourish the Future
Why do growers invest in education?
Farmers are feeding and fueling a growing world. They want the public to understand aspects of modern farming, and the industry needs talent to fill important jobs of the future. Some state commodity groups, such as Ohio Corn & Wheat, have realized the critical role teachers play in helping to meet these goals. Ohio Corn & Wheat has supported teachers with more than 10 years of excellent curriculum and professional development workshops developed by educationprojects.org (EP). Other state commodity associations, including Kansas and Nebraska, have contributed to this educational initiative. The National Corn Growers Association is leveraging the great work started in Ohio to provide resources for science teachers across the country, with EP as their education partner.
How does science connect with agriculture?
Agriculture is a vital partner in engaging students with STEM concepts in ways that directly and indirectly impact their lives. Not only does teaching ag-based curriculum in the science classroom inspire students to solve real-world science issues, reaching students is critical to address the job gap in agriculture-related careers, many of which are going unfilled. What can we do for you?
Nourish the Future offers free NGSS-friendly, hands-on lessons addressing current topics in science. They also provide free professional development events that foster connections between industry and the classroom, giving teachers an opportunity to experience engaging curriculum and receive classroom supplies. These events will be offered at both the regional and national level.Want to join our community?
Nourish the Future also invests in teacher leaders from across the country, providing them with opportunities to enhance their teaching skills, develop inquiry-based lessons, learn more about agriculture-related educational paths and careers, and build a professional network of teachers and industry experts from other states.A key part of this program is the Nourish the Future Community Conference, an annual 3-day professional development workshop. The Community Conference provides teachers with in-depth science workshops, engaging learning experiences, networking opportunities with teachers and industry experts from all over the country, and more, inspiring innovation in teaching and learning around agriculture and science.Got questions?
